You should be publishing in academic journals Abhishek. Another A+ article!

Thank a lot, Akshay.

And, you never know, maybe someday. :)

I completely agree!!

yk we were taught about this idea of the grundnorm by hans kelson in our jurisprudence class, which basically means a presupposed starting point that gives validity to everything that comes after it. what i always found interesting is that there's no real logic behind the grundnorm itself. it's just accepted. that's why the part you wrote bout being wrong asking why rather than being right about nothing kinda made some real sense. guess people are just a little more comfortable when they can find a reason behind what they're doing, even if that reason isn't entirely correct

amazing read<3

Thanks a lot, Sia.

You are right. As long as we can find a reason for anything, it’s just easier living with it. As if giving a purpose to the suffering of confusion somehow helps ease it.

I wish I had paid as much attention in my jurisprudence class back then as I’m doing now. :)

Sia💌's avatar

wdym did you not find the subject interesting enough? istg jurisprudence actually brought my interest back to my degree😭

Abhishek Singh's avatar

I didn’t pay attention back then. My fault.

Perhaps, I was a very different person back then, with very different priorities.

Was jurisprudence your favourite subject back?

Sia💌's avatar

i got done with it last sem only. jurisprudence was actually so interesting in its own way maybe cuz it explained why things worked the way they worked yk. it had this fun “thinking too much about everything” vibe that i ended up enjoying more than i expected

nothing can top contracts for me tho

Abhishek Singh's avatar

I liked contracts too.

But maybe give ‘Constitution’ a chance too? :)

Sia💌's avatar

oh i loved consti. reading judgements with all that intense vocab and literature was the best part for me. but we were ridiculously short on time that semester, so my friend and i split the work. i made notes for contracts and she took up constitution. somehow we both ended up getting more invested in the subjects we had chosen.

was constitution your fav?

i wish to spend a day in your brain.....this article was top notch.....so good sir!! as someone else said in the comments, your articles could be published in academic journals!! too good!!

Abhishek Singh's avatar

It’s also one of the reasons I write, to give readers a glimpse of what goes on inside my head. Obviously, I can’t give it all away. :P

Also, thank you so much. Who knows, maybe one day the academic journals will happen. And if they do, I’ll personally send you and Akshay (the comment you were talking about) the link. :)

The line about composing the memory while the moment is still happening stayed with me. I think a lot of people do this without realizing it. We step outside the experience and start turning it into a story before we've fully lived it.

Abhishek Singh's avatar

I agree, it’s not a rare distress. Everyone lives it.

Thanks for reading it. :)

The thing about leaving before the leaving happens I’ve noticed that I do this with good conversations especially. By the time someone says something worth remembering, I’m already composing how I’ll think about it later, and then the actual moment slips past. It’s a weird tax you pay for being too aware of time.

Abhishek Singh's avatar

To be honest, I'm trying to work on this myself. Not just think about it, but actually sit in the moment without already packaging it for later. No idea if it'll work, but the trying feels like the point.

Thanks for reading it so closely.

Too many stories that i discovered in this and it does take an accountability to do all this work before you sit and explain the main topic, definitely not random for the topic upon random, Really amazed by the writing i was still processing with the article you posted on previous week and now this. Really appreciating your effort the build up line that really make anyone have a good pause of observation. Always been surprised and exploded with mentioned facts you come with each article.

Thank you for writing this!!

Abhishek Singh's avatar

Thank you so much, Priyee. The fact that you are still sitting with the previous piece while reading this one means a lot.

And yes, the irony of doing very deliberate work for a piece on randomness wasn't lost on me either. Glad it landed. More coming soon. :)

I love how interconnected all of this feels when it is said by a narrator who simulataneously understands, believes and questions whatever he's observing. There's no concrete direction to what randomness is here and maybe that is how it's meant to be. Loved the references throughout and will definitely read the short stories :)

Thank you for the recommendations, brilliant writing!!

Abhishek Singh's avatar

Thanks a lot, Ayush. :)

I have a feeling you will like the short stories.

Ye bahut hi ghazab likhaa! What connections, what tangents - randomness is beautiful..

Abhishek Singh's avatar

Arey, thank you Soumitra.

Bas randomness doing its work, even in the post. :)

This was so good. To be honest, quite a few things went over my head. But I could feel their weight even if I couldn't understand it properly. I am gonna be thinking about this for a long time. Just brilliant and extraordinary.

Abhishek Singh's avatar

Thank you so much. That’s such a great response to receive as a writer, that even the parts which didn’t fully land still managed to leave their weight behind. Means a lot. :)
